History of Old Hickory Football

Old Hickory football originally began in the early 1950's, it fell off for a couple of years, then again in the 1960's. Due to Dupont High School teams doing poorly, the league was started again. One of the first players during this time was our own State Rep. Mike Turner. In 1970 the Old Hickory Pups, as they were known, won 11-12 yr. old City Championship with a win over Parkwood. Then in 1983 the Pups won the 9-10 Championship. In the late 1980's and the early 1990's Old Hickory enjoyed some success, but hard times fell again and as the league almost was exhausted. A new Board of Directors took hold and succeeded in bringing Od Hickory back to life. Since the year 2000 the Old Hickory Bulldogs have claimed over 14 Mid-State Conference Championships and over 11 Mid-State Division-II State Championships.
